SDLP Councillors Orla Black and Catherine McCambridge together with North Antrim MLA Seán Farren have praised the organisers of the Féile festival of hurling for young people, which took place in Cushendall this weekend.
All three attended Féile and said they were very impressed by the number of young people involved in all the competitions.
In a joint statement they said: “It was a joy to see to see the numbers of young hurlers together with club officials who came together for this festival of hurling. In an age when young people are often criticised and when people say there is nothing for them to do the Féile in Cushendall was a clear demonstration that this is not the case.
“Young hurlers came from all over the Ulster counties to compete against each other in what must be the one of the best festivals for young hurlers in Ireland.
“We compliment all who were involved in making Féile happen, the young hurlers, their parents, their coaches and club officials who helped get them ready for the competitions. They will all go home with fond memories of their visit to the Glens.
“Gaelic games are a key part of our cultural and sporting heritage and in the Glens hold a special place in the local history. We are sure that hurling and Gaelic games will have a firm pace in local culture for many years to come.”
