SDLP
Irish Language Seminar A Great Success
SDLP MLAs Dominic
Bradley, Patsy Mc Glone, and Sean Farren along with party members participated
in an important Irish language seminar attended by experts in various aspects
of the Irish language at Party headquarters in Belfast.
Speaking after the
seminar Mr Bradley said,
‘This was a very
useful seminar on the development of the Irish language in the Northern Ireland
covering education at all levels and sectors, community and public life,
economic development, as well as North/South co-operation.
Arsa an Ball Tionól,
Patsy Mc Glone,
‘Is mór an cuidiú
comhairle agus eolas a fháil ó shaineolaithe sna réimsí seo go léir agus
cuideoidh an seimineár seo linn polasaí Gaeilge PDSLO a fhorbairt a
thuilleadh. Bhí ár páirtí i gcónaí ar
thús cadhnaíochta ag cur na teanga chun tosaigh. Ba é John Hume féin a cur an Ghaeilge ar learscáil polaitiúil na
hEorpa i dtús báire.
Sean Farren MLA
commented,
‘We greatly appreciate
the advice of experts in the field and this seminar will help us further
develop party policy on the language.
The SDLP has championed the promotion of the Irish language both at home
and in Europe – it was John Hume who first put the language on the political
map in Europe and now Irish is recognised as an official language of the EU. We thanks our colleagues, both Councillors
and Assembly Members for their strong support on this important issue.
Bhí an méid seo le rá
ag an Bhrolchánach ar deireadh,
‘Leanfar leis na
cruinnithe seo in aghaidh na míosa, agus beidh muidne mar ionadaithe poiblí
agus mar Ghaeilgeoirí líofa ag brú polasaithe Gaeilge chun tosaigh ar an dá
rialtas. Fáiltímid ach go háirithe
roimh an tacaíocht láidir atá á fháil againn ón ár gcomhleacaithe idir
chomhairleoirí agus bhaill tionóil.
