New Ferry Tendering Process Must Succeed

Welcoming the new tendering process to identify a possible operator for a revival of the Campbeltown-Ballycastle ferry service Mr Sean Farren MLA said:

"The new tendering process is almost certain to be the last attempt to revive the ferry service and while the prospects are not as bright as supporters of the service would like every effort must be made to ensure a successful outcome.

"The growth in tourism figures over recent years indicates that Northern Ireland has been rediscovered as a tourist destination.

The development of the Causeway Coast as a major attraction has to be key to making a restored ferry service a success.

"North Antrim together with North Derry and Donegal are now linked to provide a single area of special tourist interest. A restored ferry service would extend this link to include Argyll.

"Marketing these links will have be a central part of achieving success and tourism strategy must take full account of what the whole area can provide.

"I and my party colleagues on Moyle Council wish the new tendering process every success."
