The SDLP North
Antrim Constituency Council has offered its congratulations to the North Antrim
Board of the GAA on the occasion of its centenary. Speaking on behalf on the
SDLP MLA Seán Farren said:
“Since its
foundation the GAA has made and continues to make an enormous contribution not
only to sporting life in Ireland but to the whole social fabric of our society.
As the greatest amateur sporting organisation in the world the GAA has been
developing sporting facilities for our young people on a scale unparalled by
any other organisation.
“Beyond the games it
has fostered, the GAA has also made an enormous contribution to the community
and cultural life of Ireland. By encouraging Irish music and dancing as well as
the Irish language the GAA has helped maintain and develop many aspects of our
cultural traditions. By becoming involved in many other forms of community life
the GAA has strengthened and enriched our communities.
“The SDLP salutes
the work done by the North Antrim Board since its foundation one hundred years
ago and pays tribute to all those who have served the board in whatever
capacity. We wish the board continued success as it enters its second century.”
