Farren ‘Time to Move On’

Condemning Sinn Féin and the DUP’s failure to fully endorse the St Andrews deal as the basis for political progress North Antrim MLA Seán Farren said:

“The governments should simply press ahead with arrangements for restoring devolution and stop spoon feeding both these parties.

“The record has shown that for as long as the governments leave the door open to further negotiations both the DUP and Sinn Féin keep coming back for more. The process never ends and the rest of the political world as well as the people of Northern Ireland as a whole are left without their rightful institutions.

“The governments must surely have learnt that lesson by now and have realised that their best way forward is to say ‘enough is enough’. The St Andrews deal was supposed to be the final word just as so many other deals were supposed to be the last word.

“The dates set by the governments should now be upheld and any failure to meet their requirements should mean an end to the process. Otherwise politics becomes even more of a joke than many people already think it to be and, more and more people will cease to believe that the Assembly etc will ever be restored.

“It’s now past time to move on and let us all know for sure what the outcome to the current process is going to be. It’s time to call the bluff of both Sinn Féin and the DUP.”
